We've occasionally been visited by an overwintering something who starts its frantic scrabbling in the ceiling of the extension usually round about now, when it drops cold.
However, this year we've noticed that our wintry visitor has gnawed its way through to the main house and seems to be spending a lot of time underneath the bathroom floor and behind the toilet cistern. We're increasingly talking structural damage and fire risk here. Not acceptable. OH and I conferred and decided that we didn't want to take our visitor's life so we would not use poison but that something needed to be done. OH researched the subject on the internet and ordered us two humane rat traps -- put bait on the little display tray inside, prime the spring trap, put it in the extension loft space and check every 12 hours.
