This week's loot from the supermarket roadkill counter...

...was 2 massively discounted Germaine Langres, an 18th-century French cow's milk cheese from the Champagne. It was obviously a Christmas cheese board special that hadn't shifted and was now coming up to its sell-by date. Over Christmas, it retailed for £3.50, but OH got them for 35p each.

The cheese is utterly lovely -- creamy, tangy, exactly ready, and thus very, very fragrant. In our Living Like Kings series, this possibly ranks as one of our best "catches".
