Hooray!
All three pumpkins are sprouting new growth. Phew! We were lucky.
The
new seedlings now go all out and into the ground. We have a pigeon
problem on the allotment site. My solution this year is not netting –
here I'm afraid of accidentally trapping birds and other critters in
the netted cage – but cut-off milk and soft drink bottles as
makeshift cloches. Sort of works. Looks very odd though, as though
we're growing milk and cola.
At
some point in May though, the cloches have to come off because the
plants have outgrown them. We become Bird Central and need to think
about how to scare them off. I put up stakes and string old CDs
between them. OH creates a weird wind-moving contraption out of two
bamboo sticks and a flag made out of black weed-suppressant membrane,
which looks faintly like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean.
