Have been feeling better by the week. Last week, I tried half an hour's worth of wood work and this week, I did a full afternoon transferring the hazel logs out of the Poolhouse and stacking them up in our wood shelter. That was quite physical but gentle as well, only involving bending over and picking things up over several hours but no heavy lifting or carrying of loads. The fresh air and light did wonders for my mood. Halfway through, OH came back from his trip to the DIY shopping centre and brought me a new pair of wellie boots -- woo yay!
He then joined me and chopped 2 huge sacks full of kindling. He and I then split some of the bigger hazel logs in two. The moisture content of the coppiced hazel is not bad at all: the ones we cut last autumn are already down to 25%, from over 30%, and in the pieces we cut in February 2012, it's around 21%, which is almost low enough to burn. It'll probably take this coming year and the wood should be ready by this autumn.
Must contact our coppicing co-ordinator to ask when we're going out into the woods next.
