Two out of the three home-made old-fence planters are finally planted up with flowers. A local garden centre had a sale on so we blew a sum on some nice plants for it -- some orange-scented orange flowers -- they have a name but I've forgotten it now -- some thick-leaved yellow and green shrubs that OH picked plus some scabious and gaillardia and a purple-red-leaved plant (you can tell I'm useless with plant names). Add a couple of homegrown monardas, strawberries, lemon balm plus some leftover red cabbage seedlings and the planters were full!
The neighbourhood-watch couple complimented us on the display after a day: "We can see the flowers peeking over the wall now -- they're already growing very fast!". OH didn't hear this but if he had, he'd have said something along the lines of "And so they should, what with all the decomposing bodies buried in there, fertilising them from below!" We like our neighbours from across the road -- they're very vigilant -- but we had to have a word with them when that CCTV camera went up. I think everyone is relieved that the planters no longer look like freshly dug graves.
