Trying to stay sane!

Work is entering its characteristically manic/busy period, with lots of late nights this week plus weekend working so it was nice to spend tonight's early evening on the plots (plural now!) with OH. He was spraying off the weeds along his path, which runs along the long boundary facing the central site axis that almost everyone uses. I was sowing lots of seeds in one of last year's raised beds: lettuce, mizuna (a Japanese salad), basil, radishes, turnips, dill, fennel, beetroot, parsley.

Strawberries all nicely wrapped up and looking good, unaffected by the nightfrosts. OH gets to chat to the cocktail bar couple who pass by to water their new plot. There's a loose plan to use their fruity produce in the bar, and OH is keen to get them to try his Booze For Free brews that we never seem to finish.

Afterwards, OH and I dropped off some escaped and potted comfrey seedlings with another new couple and drifted into a side alley we hadn't visited in months. Tomato Seedling Man lives there. He has just built himself a battery tower (Bergfried) of a shed, an 8 feet-tall monstrosity made of wood that probably violates one or two allotment rules. On nice summer's days, we'll hopefully be able to entice him down from the battlements with a beer or cider or two.

Our Birdman's chickens are also looking very healthy, and the chicken poo pile is getting very tall. Will get the wheelbarrow out next week to get some. OH and I bicker over whether we remember the numbers combination of the gate lock correctly but none of us actually wants to try it out.

OH points out that the river at this end is full of eggs -- he counts nine. It's not the chickens losing them down the slope but probably Birdman making sure only safe eggs that he can vouch for in terms of a lay date get eaten. The rest are given to the river creatures. Who then clearly ignore them.

Ran into the husband of the friend who keeps funnelling waste wood our way. Apparently excess rhubarb will be much appreciated -- make a note for the weekend.

Evening meal at Casa Random: 2 potatoes, Prawns Marie Rose, 1 kinder chocolate, cider.
