Swings and roundabouts -- last year's Egremont Russets barely filled a supermarket bag, and now it's a big old farmshop hessian bag full of huge sweet monsters, the biggest we've had from that tree so far. The prune I gave it in winter plus the generous amount of homegrown compost in the spring must have done the job.
The pears were a disappointment though -- merely a small basketful, and they're already bruised and going over while still rockhard, whereas last year, it was this much:

Together with Neighbour P reeling in 3 bags of surplus apples from a customer, we're now back making cider.
Although later on this afternoon, we'll go for a walk in the woods to look for mushrooms -- the recent rains will make it ideal! Watch this space.
