Egg Man!

We now have another egg person on the allotment. They're a new family and on Monday they wandered past our plot with a great big cardboard box. "Chickens!" the Dad -- Egg Man -- shouted across, happily. "Four in total! That should give us four eggs a day. Come and check us out!" Then he gave us the plot number.

OH and I did check out the chooks at the end of our shift. They were lovely. And one of them had already managed to get out of the enclosure and was stalking around. With the Original Poultry Man already having lost quite a few chickens to a fox, it is only a matter of time until Egg Man will come to collect one day and only find a couple of bloody feathers.

Today I am on my own -- OH is out visiting family -- so spent the evening on the plot planting runner beans, 1 pumpkin, 4 dozen broccoli and almost 3 dozen red cabbage and putting them under netting. Egg Man walked back down the central path. "How are the chooks settling in?" I asked. He held up an egg, a sizeable brown job. "Five eggs in total in five days!" he shouted, "Not bad going, eh?" Then he was gone.
