A solution to the pigeon situation

P next door always has a supply of leftover piping and plastic tubing and he always asks us whether we need any. Plastic cable pipes are great as supports for plant netting. OH had bought some cheap black debris netting and I decided this week to put it over our root and cabbage beds. So I hauled what felt like 20 metres of plastic pipes to the plot -- we really must look a sight to our neighbours, I can only imagine their gestures and rolleyes as we set off to yet another plot outing dragging or pushing all manner of rubbish on our various carts and sack barrows.

This is the result:

Should solve our pigeon problem non-violently. If you look carefully, the plot behind the green hedge in the background has dead, decomposing wood pigeons dangling from stakes. The plot holders are a lovely old couple but they don't mess around. We're complete pussycats compared to them.

Pumpkin and courgette bed, finally taking off and starting to "wander". Big clump of oregano at the front, next to a santolina. Behind the santolina a clump of applemint. Not visible: my chamomile. The big-leafed monster at the back is our rhubarb.

And this is, well, not worked yet. A bit of a Zuversicht as my mother would say. The comfrey in the background is great though -- right now it's flowering and laden with bees but once they've gone over, we'll shave it all off and pack it on the soil as fertiliser.
