Allotment coming along fantastically well, probably helped by our diligent watering. This is what we've got going:
* onions
* pumpkins and squashes (at least one Sankt Martin Halloween monster, then also Tom Fox,
* tomatoes
* potatoes (Shetland Black, Charlotte, Duke of York)
* broccoli -- florets now forming and about an inch and a half big already
* red cabbage
* 2 types of kale
* sweetcorn
* tree spinach (a pretty type of chenopodium)
* rainbow chard (first harvest yesterday and turned into home-made spinach pizza and spinach borek today)
* perpetual spinach
* Bavarian mooli radish
* carrots
* leeks
* parsnips
* runner beans
* broad beans (good to be harvested tomorrow)
* courgettes
* lettuces
* radicchio
* turnips
Herbwise, we've got growing:
* oregano
* several types of mint
* coriander
* dill
* borage
* nasturtiums
* chamomile for the house pharmacy, to treat inflammation
* parsley
* bergamot for tea
* calendula, also for inflammation
* thyme
* purple sage
The weather is going to break tomorrow. OH and I have been monitoring the various UK lightning strike websites but so far nothing anywhere near us. There's quite a bit of weather action at the moment near Leicester and Birmingham. I read that we could expect massive water dumps from the sky, and hail, and while water would be brilliant, hail would most emphatically not be. It'd destroy our sweetcorn plants and probably get the tomatoes as well and the squashes and the turnip seedlings.
Both OH and I have a day off tomorrow and are planning to get in the car if we sense something's brewing, with some salty picnic stuff and a thermos, and head out onto the flats to photograph some serious weather. I absolutely love this summer so far!
