We're going once every two days now, mainly to keep on top of the weeds (an impossibility), harvest strawberries (average haul each time after sorting and preparing: 1 kg) and new potatoes (could sit in them!) and feed the curcubits and the tomatoes.
It's reasonably warm now, but there's always rain blowing through and the moisture in the air takes its toll on our strawberries which are getting rot faster than we can harvest them. The funny weather has done nothing for our lettuces, all of which have bolted. Overall, it's not sunny enough, not warm enough for plants to really take off. We had our sustained heat wave at the wrong time of the year. Ironically, we're set for a spectacular apple year, judging by what's on the trees, and that can only bode well for our apple juicing and cider plans!
Living like kings: tonight's meal was
* 1 Tesco Everyday Value mozzarella each
* 1.5 beef tomatoes from the corner shop, sliced
* two handfuls of boiled, waxy, tasty new potatoes, straight from the plot
* pepper and lemon juice/balsamic vinegar over the tomato/mozzarella salad
* lots of butter on the potatoes
washed down by OH's latest concoction, a gin-based mojitoey thing made out of his home-made, home-grown mint syrup, gin, tonic and fresh apple mint leaves.
I also love his mint lemonade, which is basically a pint glass with a finger thickness of syrup, the juice of half a lemon, topped up to pint level with sparkling water.
Same method also for lemon balm lemonade, although that tastes much more subtle.
We would have had strawberries for dessert, had I not fallen asleep on the sofa again.
