Lovely day out in London.
Transport was very smooth -- we expected much longer queues but door-to-door, it was only 2 hours 30 mins, with an hour and a half to spare before it was time to brave Earl's Court security. We spent it wandering round Brompton Cemetery, watching the crows posing on tombstones and tame squirrels coming up to tap us for a snack. I nearly missed it but OH spotted it for me: Emmeline Pankhurst is buried there, and someone left a bouquet reminding everyone that these were the first Olympics where every country was sending at least one female athlete.
The venue, Earl's Court, was surprisingly "industrial-looking" -- clearly an effort had been made not to reinvent the wheel and to use existing facilities -- but boy, were they dated! Very similar in style to those 1970s city sports arenas.
OH and I were seated quite far back underneath the overhang so well out of range of the intrusive "Kiss Cam". The volleyball was excellent -- Italy comfortably beat Argentina
and Germany nearly managed to steal a set from the reigning Olympic champion. At one point, Germany was 4:0 up!
