The chimney sweep has now been so we're in a position where we can sort out the hearth. I've started scrubbing 36 pamments to a lovely bright-orange colour and OH will have a go at getting the soot off the hearth brickwork so that we can lay out the hearth later on this afternoon. The weather is appalling today -- there isn't even any added interest to the rain, like the very decent thunder and lightning that we had yesterday -- so we're best off staying in.
I've tried out my hatchet on the forsythia shrub in the corner of the garden where our woodstore will eventually go. It's alright although I prefer the saw. It's scary though. The blade zings as if alive.
