Spaced out on a hot Sunday

Been pondering our space issues. They could probably be resolved with better planning of verges and "dead" spaces. We'll empty the compost dalek and take it home where we could do with a second one. That will free up one bed. There's a small damp square between the old compost heap and the strawberry beds -- we'll use that for pumpkins and zucchini. There's a grassy bit behind the new compost heap -- needs digging over, another bed. Where my new "workbench" now stands, well, that could be moved to make room for an L-shaped strip of something, possibly OH's sweetcorn. The sweetcorn could be lining the boundary walls all around. Runner beans can go wherever, as could leeks, which would also look nice as bed edging. We'll just have to become cannier about mixing different companion plants and putting individual seedlings in any space that's suitable. We'll expand beds and narrow paths and not allow the weeds to claw back the verges. 

Lunchtime on a hot Sunday is a good time to ponder these things -- we both got a touch of the sun yesterday and will probably wander down the plot later on this afternoon to water and plant out more seedlings. 

One reason for our space shortage: I can't let go of my lovely lupins, planted last year and self-seeding so well.

Our herb-tomato bed: oregano in front and santolina at the back. Discovered some accidental tomato seedlings while digging -- from our compost run some weeks ago.

The Hildares tomato seedling count back home has reached 16!

More random good news: Mr Tubby has finally sussed out the cat flap and is now able to use it both ways, going out and coming in, without having to be physically carried to it.
